We
have a very special relationship
Composed
of two individuals, One
who is a parent who once was a child, The
other a child who someday may be a parent. Each
of us has power and a choice: To
hurt or to help; to be cruel or to be kind; To
put down or to support; To
accuse or to trust the other. We
can talk to each other, So
that there is an open sharing Of
feelings, wants, needs, and ideas. We
can listen to each other, So
that hearing and understanding Happen
between us. Each
of us is an individual And
must continue to protect that right. Yet, we can so live our lives; Make
our decisions; And
determine our needs – that
the other will feel proud. LET US AGREE TO: Never
expect or require to much of each other; Be
willing to compromise when we are in conflict; Not
attack, label, or insult each other; Avoid
the unfavorable comparison
with other parents and children;
And to never be right at
the expense of the other being wrong. LET US MUTUALLY SEEK:
Peace and contentment –consideration and respect— Friendship
and love—when we are together. If
this says it like it is for you, We have an agreement between us.
